Residents of Franklin, Indiana have only to drive about a half hour due north to experience all the wonders of Indianapolis, the state capital of Indiana. Franklin Day Trips and Excursions

Brazil, Indiana: The small Indiana town with the unlikely name of Brazil is Clay County’s county seat. Founded in 1866, Brazil, Indiana is one of the many communities around the United States‘ Heartland that epitomize the grand, sweeping influence its pioneer founders exerted on the generations that came after them. Take a walk around the city and notice the high craftsmanship of the master brick-layers who plied their trade during the town’s infancy. If you go around Halloween, make sure you set aside time to visit the renowned 100-Step Cemetery in Brazil, one of the scariest of all the scary haunted places in Indiana. Brazil is only about an hour due west of Franklin, Indiana.

Lebanon, Indiana
: Here’s a little piece of Americana right in Franklin’s back yard, as it were. A day trip from Franklin almost due north to Lebanon requires not much over an hour’s drive one way, and very little in the way of cash. You can enjoy this charming city’s ambiance by simply strolling around or tooling around in your car. Lebanon has not one, but two specialty chocolate shops, Donaldson’s Chocolates and David Alan Chocolatier. Hometown Treasures is a must-see while ambling through this Midwestern town, where the Lebanon shopping opportunities may not be endless, but are certainly unique. Likewise, several restaurants in Lebanon make for unique experiences. Choices range from the Formosa Gardens Chinese Restaurant to the Bijou, a restaurant in Lebanon offering authentic French cuisine. If you play your cards right, you’ll hit one of the several events Lebanon puts on every year, such as the American Indian Council’s Traditional Pow-wow and the Firecracker Classic Basketball Tournament. But any time of the year, a trip to “The Friendly City” has to be a smart choice.

Westfield, Indiana: Traveling northward from Franklin around Indianapolis on the I-465 beltway that encircles the city will take you to the suburb of  Westfield, Indiana. You can plan a nature trip to the Cool Creek Park there that the whole family will never forget, amid its stunning 91 acres thick with woods and punctuated by the lovely creek that is its namesake. Be sure to visit the Cool Creek Nature Center while you’re there. If you plan your trip for the summertime, you can enjoy live concerts in the Cool Creek Concert Pavilion, and in winter the sledding can’t be beat. For a professional ice skating rink try the Arctic Zone in Westfield, noted for their skating and hockey lessons. The excellent Wood Wind Golf Club and Academy also resides in Westfield.
